This was the very first painting I created at Hammonassett beach, after moving back to Connecticut—and what a welcome home it was. I stumbled on this beach one morning and felt like a little kid on a treasure hunt. The whole shore was covered in tiny shells, the air was salty and sweet, and the path along the rocks led me straight into pure joy.

I was especially drawn to the way the rugged rock jutted out toward the surf, with those vibrant green bushes catching the early light. It was the kind of scene that made me want to slow down and savor every brushstroke.
