Gouache on warm tan paper, painted en plein air

I painted Lighthouse Rising in the midday sun, drawn to the way light hit the tower and rocks along the shore. There’s a rhythm to painting lighthouses—they’re both grounded and reaching toward the sky—and I loved chasing the subtle shifts of color in sunlit stone, water, and sand. Gouache let me layer quickly while maintaining a loose, painterly touch, the kind I’m known for in oils. I hope it brings that sense of strength, calm, and bright, luminous light into your space.
