Oil on panel
During my three months living in Paris, I took weekly cooking classes and found myself constantly inspired by the markets and kitchens there. We lived in Les Halles, right next to the famous copper store E. DEHILLERIN (whose name I still can’t pronounce or spell!). I used to press my face to the window and admire those gleaming copper pieces, though alas, they were far out of my budget.
When I returned home, I set up this French Copper Saucepan and Garlic in my studio to bring that memory alive. It’s my way of painting the romance of Paris kitchens—the warmth of copper, the earthy simplicity of garlic, the beauty in tools made for cooking.
An original oil painting of a still life in a traditional style.
